Conferences

On Tuesday, a green form confirming the date and time for your conference (if you requested one) will be sent home. The bottom of this form must be returned to school. If you could check your calendar and send this form back ASAP, it would be greatly appreciated.

September 27-October 1, 2010

English-
This week we will begin Unit Three-Verbs. This is a very long unit and will be divided into six small tests rather than one large test. A letter will be sent home early in the week letting you know what sections each quiz will cover. The first quiz will cover sections 1 and 2 and will be given on Tuesday, October 5.

Science-
TEST THREE IS TUESDAY! This week we will work on the Plant and Animal Kingdoms. This will complete our study of Classification. Test 4 date TBA.

Noun Test Details

Below is a listing of what each section of the test will ask the students to do. We have finished everything except singular and plural possessives.

1. Circle all nouns in the sentences.
2. Circle all common nouns and correct all proper nouns.
3./4. Write the plural form of the given nouns.
5. Rewrite each phrase using a singular possessive noun.
6. Rewrite each phrase using a plural possessive noun.
7. Proofread the paragraph and correct the mistakes.
8. Read the given paragraph and answer the questions that follow.

September 20-24, 2010

English-
This week we will complete the unit on Nouns. The Unit Test will be given Friday. Homework each night is to study. Spiral #3 will be given out on Monday and is due by Friday. Please check over your child's work before they turn it in.

Science-
This week we will work on the Archaebacteria and Eubacteria Kingdoms. Students should have 20 blank notecards in class for Wednesday. The test will be given on Tuesday, September 28.

Please note that during this chapter I am demonstrating for the students how to make study notecards. After this chapter, I will not require students to create notecards in class. If they decide that this is a good way for them to study, then they will have the skills to create cards at home.

Homework each night is to review notes for test 3.

HOMEROOM NOTES:

Mass on Friday. Don't forget mass uniform and Food Bank Donations.

Orange sheets from Homeroom Reps due by Friday if you wish to volunteer.

September 13-17, 2010

Science-
Test Friday on Fungi and Protist Kingdoms. Students have all notes in packet, notecards and tree maps that may be used as study aides. We will review in different formats during the week. See front of packet for test format/total points possible.

English-
This week we will continue working with Nouns. The test will likely be next week. I will post the date as soon as I know.
Spiral #2 is due this Friday, September 17. Please remember that parents are ENCOURAGED to check the work before students turn it in to me.

STPs will go home in both subjects on Tuesday. Remember, papers signed and returned on Wednesday earn one bonus point.

Progress Reports/Conference Forms

Progress Reports are being sent home today. Please sign and return TOMORROW!!

Conference request forms are with Porgress Reports. Please fill this out and return to school by Tuesday. Conferences will begin being scheduled Tuesday at 9 a.m. If your paper is late, any special request will not be honored.

Science

Test Two will be given on Friday, September 17. As of today, students have all notes that they need to study for this test. We will make notecards on Monday and review during the week.

H.W. for Monday is to have 20 BLANK notecards in class.

Altar Server Sign Up

Altar Server Sign-Up will be held this Sunday in the Parish Hall. Please refer to this week's ABCs (found on the SAS website) for more details.

Quiz Bowl Try Outs

Try outs for Quiz Bowl will be held this Friday at 8 a.m. in room M-3 (next door to the Science Lab). Any interested students should plan to attend.

I hope you all had an enjoyable Labor Day weekend.

Science- This week we will discuss the Fungi Kingdom and take notes in the packet. Homework each night is to review any notes done so far. Test two has not been scheduled. I will post as soon as I have a date.

Quizzes from last week are graded, but I still have make-ups to be taken. Papers will go home next Tuesday, but all students have seen their grade.

I enjoyed viewing Carl Linneaus projects. I will post some pictures very soon.

English- This week we will begin the chapter on Nouns. The first writing assignment and Chapter one test will be sent home today (Tuesday). Please sign and return no later than Thursday.
