Pep Rally

Each year the school holds a pep rally in which all grades are involved. The theme this year is Holidays. Mrs. Davidson has convinced the cheer coach that SuperBowl Sunday is a holiday and that 5th grade could represent. So, that is our theme. This Friday students should wear regular uniform along with their orange spirit shirt to school. They should bring all Saints/SuperBowl related items to change into before the pep rally. Please don't go out and buy anything that you were not already planning to buy. All students have been given suggestions of cheap/free ways to participate. If you need ideas, please let Mrs. Davidson or me know. The pep rally will be at 3 on Friday and any parents who want to attend are invited.

GEAUX SAINTS!!

English

The Vocabulary Unit 9 test scheduled for this Friday has been moved to Tuesday, February 2.

After this test we will take a little break from the Vocabulary book.

January 25-29, 2010

Tests this week
English- Adjectives test on Tuesday and Vocabulary Unit 9 test on Friday

Science- Fighting Diseases test on Thursday. (use study hints sheet when studying)

In English we will continue working on Sayings and Phrases project and will work on a short writing assignment using adjectives.

In Science we will finish up section 6-5 and spend some time studying/reviewing for the test.

F.Y.I.
*Collection for Haiti continues this week.
*Pep Rally on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
*Don't forget that Feb. 12 is not a school day for students.

Homeroom F.Y.I.
*We will celebrate Valentine's Day on February 10 (I will be out the 11 and students are out the 12). We WILL NOT have a party. I will allow a short amount of time before dismissal for students to pass out cards/candy, if they wish. THIS IS NOT MANDATORY. All I ask is that students have enough cards/candy for all 31 students in our class and that they not address them individually. For example, they should leave the To: part blank and just fill in the From:
This will save us time and allow us this short celebration of my favorite holiday!

Don't forget our NO NUTS policy if you purchase candy for the class.

Thank you!

Better Late Than Never =)

Sorry for the delay in this posting. I, like so many of the kids, am having a hard time getting back into the groove of things!

English- This week we began Unit 4 in the text. This unit explores adjectives. Along with the pages in the book, we are learning about using adjectives to make writing more descriptive. The test on Unit 4 will be Tuesday, January 26.

Vocabulary Unit 8 test is this Friday (Jan. 15).

Science- We are working our way through the Fighting Diseases packet. All students should review all checked information in their packet each night. Reading the information once or twice a night will help students to retain the information without having to "cram" the night before the test. The test on this packet is scheduled for Wednesday, January 27. If that changes, I will post the new date.

5th grade reminders- All scheduled tests are located on the yellow test calendar in the hall. Any work that a teacher requires an absent student to complete is listed on the white dry erase board in the hall. Just a few reminders about that board. It is not to be used by present students to gather homework for the day. I have had several students ask if they can go into the hall and check the homework board. This board is for ABSENT students only. Each teacher will post their information by 3:30. If nothing is listed, please assume that no HW is necessary OR that the teacher will catch your child up when they return to school. Again, this board is not for students who are present that day.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

January 5-8, 2010

Happy New Year and Welcome Back. I hope everyone had a wonderful break from school. Now it's time to get back into our routine.

Just a reminder that all students are expected to have needed school supplies each day in class. If your child needs pens (blue/black and red), pencils, markers, etc. please make every effort to take care of this over the weekend.

English- This week we will continue work on our Sayings and Phrases Booklet. Vocab. unit 8 is due this Friday. The test will be next Friday, January 15. We will also begin the Adjectives chapter in the text this week. Test for that chapter TBA.

Science- All students received a new packet today. Our new chapter is Infectious Diseases. Test will be on the entire packet, so please reinforce that studying should be done a little each night. Test details and date coming soon.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns about 5th grade.
